Divorce

A divorce can include the following issues, depending on your circumstances: establishing legal grounds for divorce, determining legal and physical custody of your children, establishing child support, establishing spousal support/alimony, dividing martial property. There can be more complicating factors in a divorce, like domestic violence, division of marital property, the valuation of a business, drug or alcohol issues, military or government retirement assets and pensions, international issues, as well as security clearances. It is important to hire an attorney who understands these issues and their legal impact, and can provide you with sound legal advice.

Post-Divorce Issues

There are a number of post-divorce issues that may arise as well. A person might need to modify a child support or spousal support arrangement, or the legal or physical custody of a child. There are also enforcement issues that can arise. For example, a parent might decide to stop paying child support; an award of attorney’s fees is not received on time; or a parent decides not to return a child to the other parent at the end of his or her custodial time. All of these problems have specific legal actions that can help people obtain relief.

Other Family Law Matters

Obviously, you do not have to be married to need guidance through a family law issue. If you have a child with someone, then matters of legal custody, physical custody and child support need to be determined. Additionally, if you live with a significant other, you might find yourself in a situation where you need a protective order.

Sometimes family law cases and criminal law cases overlap. Because we are a family law and criminal defense law firm, we can be your one-stop solution for any criminal law or family law issues you may be facing. In fact, our team of attorneys Kara Lee and Misha Lopez work closely together for our clients whose criminal cases have a bearing on family law matters.
